Mapo-gu, Seoul, has decided not to impose fines for meetings of 7 members such as Kim Eo-jun, a broadcaster who has been controversial in violation of the quarantine rules for banning’private gatherings with more than 5 people’.

An official in Mapo-gu said on the 19th, “After receiving legal advice and internal discussions, it was determined that it was impossible to impose a fine.” “TBS is also insisting that the meeting is not a private meeting, but a business meeting.”

On January 19th, a photo of 7 people from the production of’TBS Kim Eo-jun’s News Factory’ including Mr. Kim, had a meeting at a coffee shop in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, posted on the online community, and controversy arose that they violated the quarantine regulations. Accordingly, Mapo-gu conducted a field investigation the next day and confirmed that there were 7 participants.

Mapo-gu sent a questionnaire to the Seoul Metropolitan Government to determine whether it violated the quarantine rules. On the 3rd of last month, the Seoul Metropolitan Government interpreted the meeting as a private meeting, violating the administrative order and subject to fines, and informed Mapo-gu in writing. However, after delaying the decision for more than a month, Mapo-gu decided not to impose a fine on the 18th.

However, this is likely to be controversial as it does not meet the standards for quarantine regulations announced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s administrative order and the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. According to the standard, business meetings at companies, etc., do not correspond to private meetings, but after that, it is stipulated that attendees having meals, etc., correspond to private meetings that are not related to work.
