The prosecution, who is investigating the allegations of Kumho Asiana Group’s “unfair support for affiliates,” summoned former group chairman Park Sam-koo.

On the 15th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office Fair Trade Investigation Department (Director Minhyung Kim) called for an investigation on charges of violating the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act (Fair Trade Act).

In August of last year, the Fair Trade Commission imposed a penalty of 32 billion won along with a corrective order, claiming that former chairman Park violated the Fair Trade Act by using affiliates such as Asiana Airlines to unfairly support Kumho Express, which has a high total ownership, at the group level. In addition, he filed a complaint with the prosecution against former chairman Park, two executives from the group’s strategic management office, and two subsidiaries of Kumho Industrial and Asiana Airlines.

The FTC believes that Kumho Express has earned an interest rate margin of about 16.9 billion won through the support of its affiliates, and that the total family, including Chairman Park, earned a profit of at least 7.7 billion won and a settlement dividend of 250 million won.

In November of last year, the prosecution seized and searched the group headquarters and Asiana Airlines offices to obtain related data. In January, former Group Chief Financial Officer Yoon Mo, who was accused of conspiracy to delete FTC materials unfavorable to the group, and Song Mo, who was then known as a digital forensic agent of the FTC, were handed over to trial on charges of destroying evidence and bribery.

On the 5th, Park Moo, who is known to have played a key role in the group as a close friend of former chairman Park, was summoned, the former head of the group’s strategic management department, to investigate whether or not the upper-level was intervened.

It is expected that the prosecution, who completed an investigation into the former Chairman Park on this day, will soon decide the direction of handling the recruitment of former Chairman Park, including a request for an arrest warrant.
