On the 10th, Hyundai Motor Group unveiled’Tiger’, a transforming robot that can freely move anywhere with four legs and wheels. It is designed to be used for transportation of supplies and scientific exploration at accident sites where vehicle access is difficult. Tiger stands for’transform (T) intelligent (I) ground (G) moving (E) robot (R)’.
Tiger was developed by’New Horizons Studio’, an organization in charge of future mobility under the Hyundai Motor Group. This first concept model was named’X-1′. ‘X’ means’experimental’.
The Tiger is about 80 cm long, 40 cm wide, and weighs 12 kg. It is a small unmanned mobility with 4 legs and wheels. When breaking through uneven terrain, valleys, or obstacles, it can be moved on foot with a robotic bridge, and on flat terrain or roads, it can transform into a four-wheel drive vehicle and run back and forth, left and right. A separate cargo compartment is provided inside the vehicle body to enhance product protection. It is suitable for multipurpose missions, including delivering goods to deep mountains or remote locations.
Tiger is made with a modular platform structure like the’Elevate’, a walking car that Hyundai Motor Company first unveiled at the 2019 International Electronics Show (CES). The fact that it can move on four legs regardless of the terrain is the same, but unlike the elevator, Tiger is an unmanned robot.
At the end of last year, Hyundai Motor Group invested a total of 880 million dollars (approximately 958.8 billion won) to acquire Boston Dynamics, an American robotics company known for its robot dogs, and entered the robot industry.
