[사회]The road on the left side of Gwanghwamun Plaza is closed…

[앵커]

The road to the left of Gwanghwamun Square was closed from last Saturday to create a new Gwanghwamun Square.

As a result, there is a concern about extreme congestion on the surrounding roads such as the Sajik-ro section.

Let’s take a look at the way to work by connecting the relay car out at Gwanghwamun Square. Reporter Eom Yun-ju!

It’s a busy rush hour, but what’s the situation on the spot?

[기자]

Yes, first of all, as you can see behind me, traffic on the left side of the road facing the Sejong Center is completely prohibited.

As the construction began in earnest, the road that was full of cars on a weekday morning was empty.

Instead, construction vehicles come and go, and asphalt removal is in full swing.

The existing bus stop in front of Sejong Center has also been relocated due to construction.

On the other hand, the road on the right is now a two-way road.

Since last Saturday, the city of Seoul closed the road to the left of Sejong-daero and made it only to the right.

Due to this, the existing two-way 10-lane road has been reduced to a 7-lane road.

As the traffic system around Gwanghwamun Square changes, drivers are inevitably confused.

Some cars, who are not aware of the road closure, tend to turn right on the left road as usual, but are stopped by the traffic police and turn around.

On the right road, there is an increased risk of hitting a vehicle turning left from Sejong-daero toward Sajik-ro and a vehicle turning right.

In particular, as we enter the full-fledged rush hour, congestion is forming on the roads.

In the case of the Sajik-ro section and near Gyeongbokgung Station, the flow of vehicles is stuffy as buses and cars bite their tails.

However, the average travel speed in both directions from 7 to 8 in the morning is 27 km/h, which is similar compared to the same time last week.

Did the city of Seoul come up with comprehensive measures to minimize vehicle congestion?

[기자]

That’s right.

Prior to this road reform, the city of Seoul prepared a comprehensive traffic countermeasure through simulation analysis.

First of all, a new intersection signal that can be detoured from Sajik-ro and Yulgok-ro, which meets Sejong-daero, to the surrounding roads has been established.

In addition, it is inducing dispersion and detour by adjusting the operation of 13 signals at intersections entering the city center.

In particular, public transportation through the area has been increased to minimize traffic congestion and civil discomfort.

In addition, traffic police and other manpower have been intensively deployed to promptly respond to traffic conditions that may occur in the field.

The city of Seoul plans to complete the excavation of cultural properties for the closed left road by next month, and it will be completed in November with full-scale construction from May.
