[사회]The only thing to believe is vaccines… emergency securing supplies for the global’vaccine war’

[앵커]

As the world competes to secure vaccines, we are interested in whether the amount of vaccines contracted by the Korean government will be introduced at the scheduled time.

There are also concerns that the unstable supply and demand of vaccines may hinder vaccination.

In November, the government signed a vaccine contract for 79 million people, 1.5 times the population, with the aim of mass immunization.

It is planned to inoculate 12 million people in the first half of the year, but some disruptions occurred in the supply and demand of the vaccine.

This is because only 8.89 million people have arrived in Korea as scheduled or have a specific arrival schedule.

There is still no rough plan for when the shortage will be resolved.

What is more concerned is the third quarter.

Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun declared that 70% of the population would complete the first vaccination by the end of September, and for this, 25 million people are needed in the third quarter alone.

This unstable supply and demand is due to the fierce battle for securing vaccines around the world.

India, which accounts for 60% of vaccine production, temporarily suspended exports of AstraZeneca vaccines, saying domestic vaccination is the priority, and the European Union also tightened the conditions for vaccine exports.

It is pointed out that the vaccination rate in Korea, which is currently 1.69 out of 100, should be increased by rushing to determine the quantity and timing of the contracted vaccine before the import road is blocked.

The government announced that it will increase the vaccination rate as much as possible by considering increasing the interval between the first and second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from 10 weeks to 12 weeks, depending on the supply and demand situation.

In addition, he emphasized that even if some schedule changes, there will be no significant disruption to the second quarter vaccination plan.
