Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who has been visiting the national prosecutors’ office since last year, visits the Daegu High Prosecutors’ Office the day after tomorrow.

Recently, the prosecution’s internal protest against the serious crime investigation agency promoted by the ruling party is focused on what kind of voice Yoon will make.

President Yoon Seok-yeol visited the national prosecutors’ office in February last year to encourage prosecutors and listen to prosecutors’ opinions.

Afterwards, it stopped due to the spread of Corona 19 and the aftermath of disciplinary claims, and then resumed after five months.

On the 3rd, I will visit the Daegu High Prosecutors’ Office and the Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office, the last remaining among the high prosecutors’ offices outside the metropolitan area.

What is drawing attention is whether or not to release a message related to the Severe Crime Investigation Office, which is currently considered the biggest issue of the prosecution.

If the Investigation Office legislation, initiated by Hwang Unha and Democratic Party lawmaker, is implemented as the original proposal, the prosecution’s right to investigate directly will be effectively abolished.

With the establishment of a high-ranking public officials criminal investigation office and the adjustment of the prosecutor’s right to investigate, the scope of the prosecution’s direct investigation has been greatly reduced to the six major crimes.

The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office sent an official letter to the front-line prosecutors’ office last month and requested that the prosecutors collect their opinions.

The prosecution’s internal backlash is growing.

In an article on the prosecution’s internal network, Park Chul-wan, head of the Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office, criticized that establishing an investigation office would create a serious void in response to crime.

Koo Seung-mo, the chief prosecutor’s office for international cooperation, stressed that major foreign countries are trying to integrate the functions of investigation and prosecution as organically as possible in serious crimes.

It is also predicted that if Yoon issues a message of criticism related to the investigation agency during this visit, the protest movement within the prosecution will expand further.

However, there are also observations that the Investigation Office will refrain from expressing opinions as there is opposition within the ruling party and it has not yet been confirmed as a party argument.

At the end of July’s term of office, President Yoon is paying attention to what kind of steps he will take in the round of the prosecutor’s office.
