We hope that this decline will continue this week.

The decline in confirmed cases is clearly positive, but it is necessary to thoroughly prepare for risk factors that may lead to re-proliferation, such as quiet transmission within the community and the influx of mutant viruses.

The quiet spreaders found through the temporary screening laboratory still account for 17% of confirmed cases per day, and the infectious reproduction index, which had been declining, has recently increased again.

There is also an analysis that the infectious reproduction index will increase 1.5 times if the mutant virus, which is spreading horribly around the world, spreads in Korea.

We must not forget that last month, when the third epidemic was in full swing, an average of 830 people were confirmed per day and 12 people had to end their precious lives every day.

This week will be a very important time to determine the distancing steps and quarantine standards that will be applied from February, while turning the current decline into a solid stabilization phase.

In particular, this quarantine countermeasure needs a comprehensive review, taking into account even the Lunar New Year holidays.

Most experts point out that quarantine measures must be swiftly strengthened and prudent and cautious when mitigating measures.

During an epidemiological investigation into a recent outbreak case, the quarantine authorities confirmed that a companion animal was infected with Corona 19.

This is the first confirmed case of companion animal in Korea.
