Among them, there are only 790 confirmed cases related to the outbreak in the Eastern Detention Center in Seoul.

The Ministry of Justice will announce the causes and countermeasures for this situation soon.

First of all, please tell us the situation related to the outbreak of the Eastern detention center.

Yes, as of 0 o’clock yesterday, the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to outbreaks in the eastern detention center here reached 792.

There are 771 prisoners, including prisoners, and 21 prison staff.

The Dongbu Detention Center conducted a fourth full-scale inspection yesterday morning on 1,840 people, including employees and prisoners.

The test results are expected to come out around this afternoon. As there have been around 200 confirmed cases each time in the last three diagnostic tests, there is a high possibility that the number of confirmed cases will increase significantly this time.

To prevent the spread of infection, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of Justice are moving non-confirmed prisoners to other correctional facilities such as Gangwon and Daegu.

On the 23rd, the Ministry of Justice transferred 175 prisoners from the Dongbu Detention Center to three places: Nambu Prison, Gangwon North Prison, and Yeoju Prison.

The problem is that 16 people who went to the southern prison and one who went to the northern prison in Gangwon were confirmed.

However, the quarantine authorities explained that the deported detainees were separated from single rooms and were less likely to spread further.

Did any of the reasons for this increase in population infections be revealed?

Yes, as you can see behind me, the Eastern Detention Center is an apartment-style structure.

In addition, the quarantine authorities explained that they were vulnerable to group infections due to the typical’three-mild conditions’, such as poor ventilation and inability to separate and accommodate confirmed cases.

Masks were not provided even though they were living in a group.

The Ministry of Justice said it did not provide masks to prisoners in detention centers across the country due to lack of budget.

It added that masks were only provided to detention centers where a confirmed case occurred among prisoners, and masks were only provided to detention centers without cases when detainees went outside, such as outside.

On the 27th of last month, the KF94 mask was issued only after the first confirmed person came out at the Dongbu detention center.

Even this was once a week, so after that, it was said that I had to purchase and wear a mask personally.

In addition, it was argued that the Eastern Detention Center prescribed cold medicine instead of quarantine or additional tests when inmates complained of sore throat, which is a suspected symptom of Corona 19.

In response, the eastern detention center explained that the corona is a cold symptom, so it was prescribed to relieve symptoms, and that it was not isolated because the person was not severely ill.

The Ministry of Justice is planning to announce the exact status of the outbreaks, causes, and future countermeasures related to the outbreak of collective infection at the Eastern Detention Center from 10 am, 20 minutes later.
