Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office Lee Seong-yoon received two official requests for attendance from the prosecution in connection with the allegations of Kim Hak-ei being banned from illegal departure from the Ministry of Justice, but it has been confirmed that he has rejected all of them.

Since the prosecutor of the district was converted from a reference person to a suspect, the possibility of compulsory investigation, such as a request for an arrest warrant, is also raised.

The prosecution, investigating the suspected illegal departure ban by Kim Hak-ei, former Vice Minister of Justice, notified the subpoena to Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office Lee Seong-yoon.

Before and after the Lunar New Year holidays, when the date of attendance was adjusted by phone, etc., a complaint was filed against the district prosecutor’s office, and the status was changed from a reference person to a suspect.

However, it was confirmed that the summons investigation was canceled by submitting a letter of reasons for non-show due to the fact that the date was tight.

Prosecutor Lee Seong-yoon is under suspicion of “external pressure” in connection with the alleged ban on illegal departure from former Vice Minister Kim.

Earlier, the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office, Anyang Branch, attempted to investigate and investigate the situation of’illegal departure ban’ in the process of investigating the suspicion of the leak of information on the ban on departure from former Vice Minister Kim’s side in 2019, but it failed.

The recent public interest report revealed that the investigation was stopped due to the pressure of the anti-corruption force of the former Supreme Prosecutors’ Office. At the time, the head of the anti-corruption force was Chief Prosecutor Lee Seong-yoon.

The prosecution has already completed a reference investigation, including Suwon District Prosecutor Moon Hong-seong and Kim Hyeong-geun, Deputy Prosecutor of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors’ Office, who were in the anti-corruption department at the time.

As suspicions followed, Chief Prosecutor Lee even issued a statement of public refutation, saying it was a normal command.

With Lee’s refusal to be summoned twice, attention is now focused on the prosecution’s investigation team’s response.

In principle, there is a possibility that forced investigations such as a request for an arrest warrant may be initiated.

However, the burden of being the incumbent prosecutor is inevitable, and the legal provision that if the prosecutor finds a crime suspect, he must be transferred to the high-ranking officials criminal investigation office is also an obstacle.

Likewise, it is observed that a request for an arrest warrant is imminent as prosecutor Lee Gyu-won, who is the target of the airlift, has been summoned several times.

It seems difficult to avoid prosecution investigations as long as District Prosecutor Lee Seong-yoon has been converted to a suspect, but it seems that there will be a lot of noise regarding the subpoena process and investigation method.

As Kim Hak’s investigation into the former vice minister’s case is gradually heading for the’upper line’, tensions within the prosecution are also rising.
