Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of Samsung Electronics will be sentenced to remand today to determine whether or not he will be jailed again.

The Seoul High Court will hold a trial on the 18th at 2:05 p.m. on the 18th of this day to bring down the alleged cases of bribery and other charges by Vice Chairman Lee.

The special prosecutor asked for nine years in prison for trying to conceal the truth through false statements even though Vice-Chairman Lee actively bribed for succession of management at the previous decision hearing.

On the other hand, Vice-Chairman Lee appealed for a probation of execution, saying that it was only a bribe due to the coercion of former President Park Geun-hye.

Previously, Vice Chairman Lee was arrested in February 2017 for requesting former President Park and Seo-won Choi to help with the succession of the Samsung Group’s management rights and bribe.

Vice-Chairman Lee was sentenced to five years in prison in the first trial, but the conviction was lowered in the second trial, and in the second trial, he was sentenced to four years probation after two years and six months of imprisonment. I sent the case back to the Seoul Court, saying I should see it.

According to the purpose of repatriation for destruction, the amount of bribery given by Vice-Chairman Lee will increase to 8.6 billion won, and if a charge of embezzling the money is applied, the person will be sentenced to life in prison or five years or more.

For this reason, the legal dispute between the special prosecutor and the lawyers over the sentence, such as the effectiveness of the Samsung Compliance Committee, which was established during the trial, took place during the remand hearing.

Another key figure in the Gukjeong Nongdan case, former President Park, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a fine of 18 billion won in the Supreme Court on the 14th.
