Regarding Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s suspicion of illegal administration of Propofol, the Prosecutors’ Investigation Review Committee, composed of external experts, recommended that the investigation be stopped.

However, as to whether to hand over this vice-chairman to trial, the votes for and against were the same number, so we could not conclude.

As for whether the actual prosecution and whether to hand over the vice-chairman to trial, 7 people each in favor and objection, the same number, could not be concluded.

Earlier, the prosecutors initiated an investigation after receiving a report from the National Rights Committee in January of last year that Vice Chairman Lee had been routinely administered Propofol in plastic surgery clinics and an investigation request.

However, Vice Chairman Lee’s side applied for a convocation of the prosecution’s investigation deliberation committee, saying that he had never used illegal medication except for legal treatment.

The Investigation Deliberation Committee is a system in which external experts such as legal and academic circles deliberate and recommend whether to continue the investigation or hand over to a trial for cases in which national suspicion has been raised.

However, the prosecution does not have to follow the recommendations of the Investigation Deliberation Committee.

Vice-Chairman Lee applied for an investigation deliberation committee last year in the alleged illegal succession of management rights and received a recommendation for non-prosecution, but the prosecutors handed Lee over to trial.

Regarding the recommendation of the Investigation Review Committee, the prosecution said that it would review the final disposition by combining the results of the investigation so far and the opinions of the deliberation.
