[사회]Gyeonggi Province continues full-scale inspection of foreign workers despite controversy over’human rights violations’

[앵커]

As cases of group infections in the metropolitan area such as Dongducheon have been followed, the deadline for the order for a total inspection of foreign workers initiated by Gyeonggi-do is approaching tomorrow.

On the holidays, foreign workers were coming to the screening clinic, and voices of opposition about human rights violations also came out.

As there is a deadline for one day, foreign workers are likely to flock. What is the situation on the site?

[기자]

Yes, people are continuing here to get a full inspection of foreign workers scheduled until tomorrow.

On holidays, foreign workers flocked, and at one time, a long line of over 200 meters ran across the square here.

Earlier, Gyeonggi Province issued a full inspection order for all foreign workers in its jurisdiction from the 8th.

The target is about 85,000 foreign workers working in 25,000 workplaces employing foreigners.

However, more people gathered as foreigners who were not registered for illegal stays, etc., could be examined anonymously.

The deadline is three weeks and ends tomorrow.

Gyeonggi Province has even put a stern proposition that it would impose a fine of 2 million to 3 million won if it is not inspected.

Those who came for the examination said that they were relieved rather than worried.

Listen for yourself.

[앵커]

There were many stories of concerns about the crowd, but has this been resolved?

[기자]

Yes, as you said, there are concerns that the distance is not being kept as more people gather than expected.

In response, local governments have taken supplemental measures such as increasing screening clinics and extending operating hours, and many of the problems have been resolved.

Let’s listen to the story for yourself.

However, it is still pointed out that it is a violation of human rights to have them unconditionally examined because they are not Koreans.

Not only foreign media, but also British and German ambassadors to the Republic of Korea protested against the order of compulsory prosecution, saying it was a policy of discrimination against foreigners.

In addition, the Human Rights Commission also expressed an opinion that there is a concern that it may promote discrimination against foreigners and that a review is necessary.

Following Gyeonggi-do, the Seoul Metropolitan Government issued an order for a full inspection with the same contents, but after three days of accusations, the order was withdrawn.

Instead, it recommended that foreign workers in high-risk workplaces undergo diagnostic tests within this month.

On the other hand, the evaluation that the preemptive inspection of foreign workers conducted by some local governments has ended the spread is also striking.

In the midst of this, the script also investigated whether there are any deficiencies in quarantine for foreign workers’ dormitories, etc., and took measures to compensate.

First of all, as many confirmed cases of foreign workers have been confirmed through this preemptive inspection, it is expected that the spreading trend will subside from next week.
