Video calls are provided for free during the Lunar New Year holidays.
On the previous day (9th), Minister of Science and Technology Information and Communication held an online conference with representatives of the three telecommunications companies (SKT Park Jeong-ho, KT Sang-mo, LGU+ Hyeon-sik Hwang) and announced measures to support communication services, including free video calls.
First, video calls are provided free of charge during the holiday season (February 11 to 14) to support returning home from LAN.
Free video calls are available to anyone who has a smartphone who can make video calls, and includes 3 communication companies as well as affordable phone users.
It also strengthens support for the digitally vulnerable. It has decided to support an additional service that allows low-income elementary, middle, and high school students to freely use educational contents such as EBS with their smartphones without the burden of data usage.
Support has also been prepared for small business owners and self-employed people who have difficulties in their lives due to Corona 19.
Small business owners and self-employed (about 150,000 people) who are using products exclusively for small business owners from three telecom companies will provide 100GB (50GB/month) of mobile phone data over two months if they apply.
In addition, if a business owner such as a lodging business or a PC cafe applies for a temporary suspension of communication services (high-speed Internet, leased lines, etc.) used in the business due to a decrease in customers, etc., it has been decided to extend what was previously only available for 3 months to 6 months. .
In addition, the three telecommunications companies decided to postpone the suspension in February and March during the Lunar New Year holidays to prevent mobile phone charges from being overdue and interruption of use of mobile phones, and to provide a guide for partial payment of unpaid charges when applying.
Minister of Science and ICT, Choi Ki-young, said, “This support in the telecommunications sector for the stability of people’s livelihood is a big step toward realizing an inclusive society that everyone can enjoy, beyond the simple recovery of daily life and economy in overcoming the Corona 19 crisis.”
