‘Jeong-in-i case’ trigger… “Prosecutors need an active attitude”

A woman in her 30s who killed her 3-year-old daughter with a blunt weapon was sentenced by the court to 10 years in prison.
The judiciary admitted some of the intentionality of the murder, but the prosecution did not commit murder, but only applied the crime of child abuse and lethality.
Reporter Kim Woo-jun’s report.

Mr. A, a woman in her thirties who was handed over to trial for killing a 3-year-old girl who lived with her.
The incident took place at Mr. A’s home at around 3 pm on January 28, 2019.
An assault was initiated because a child of a co-located man pushed his dog. An hour later, the child was moved to the emergency room with a part of his skull depressed, and died within a month.
Mr. A, accused of child abuse and death, was eventually sentenced to 10 years in prison and imprisoned.
When referring to the findings of a forensic scientist, the court judged that Mr. A killed the child by hitting the child’s head several times with a hard stick.
He also pointed out that the abuse did not stop, knowing that hitting a 3-year-old child’s fragile head would lead to death.
This is where the judge partially acknowledged A’s murder intention.
However, the prosecution only applied child abuse and lethal charges to Mr. A, not murder charges.

It is pointed out that the prosecution needs a more proactive attitude from the time of the prosecution, as interest in child abuse increased as a result of the’Jeong-in’ case.

According to the Supreme Court’s sentencing standards, child abuse and mortality are 4 to 7 years in prison, but murder is 10 to 16 years in prison.
