The quarantine authorities said that the third pandemic seems to have turned to a decline, and predicted that the number of confirmed cases will be in the 6 to 700 range next week.

It was only 41 days after 451 on December 1 last year that the number of confirmed cases fell to 400.

The large number of holiday inspections also seemed to have had an impact.

However, the quarantine authorities value the weekly average rather than the number of confirmed cases per day.

This is also a decline.

The average number of confirmed cases per day in the second week of January was 738.1, a 20.7% decrease from 930.4 the previous week, continuing the decline for the second consecutive week.

Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Central Defense Countermeasures Headquarters, estimated that the infectious disease reproduction index dropped to around 1.0 last week and was around 0.88 this week, so if this trend continues, 600 to 700 people will occur next week.

A total of 158 people died in the last week.

People in their 80s and older accounted for the most at 64%, and nursing hospitals and nursing facilities accounted for 60% of the estimated path of infection.

In addition, the most common route of infection was contact with a confirmed person at 41.5%, and transmission through family, acquaintances, and co-workers accounted for a high percentage.

First of all, there is a constant risk of infection in the community.

It was pointed out that there are still hidden sources of infection in the local community as the percentage of the infection route is unknown.

To prevent this, we are currently considering a plan to continuously operate a temporary screening inspection center in the metropolitan area.

Second, the outbreak of facilities vulnerable to infection continues.

Accordingly, measures are being implemented such as increasing the preemptive examination in nursing hospitals from once a week to twice a week.

In addition, the virus and seasonal risk factors from the UK and South Africa were also ranked as the third and fourth risk factors.
