The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved a special import for 60,000 Pfizer vaccines supplied by COVAX, an international vaccine joint purchase project.

This Pfizer vaccine is expected to be imported in the middle of this month and become the first Corona 19 vaccine to be vaccinated in Korea.

Among the 10 million vaccines that Korea has decided to receive from Kovacs, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved the special import for 60,000 of Pfizer’s initial supply.

This is in response to the request of Kovacs to complete the import process promptly.

Accordingly, the government plans to complete the preparations necessary for distribution such as cold chains and receive the vaccine as early as mid-month.

Prior to approval of special importation, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety held an expert advisory meeting in conjunction with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to discuss the safety and effectiveness of Pfizer vaccine and the need for special import.

The advisory meeting recommended special import in consideration of the fact that the World Health Organization has listed Pfizer vaccine on the emergency use list, that the Korean Food and Drug Administration participated in the WHO’s Pfizer vaccine review, and that 28 countries around the world have already been approved for use. .

The amount of Pfizer vaccine that is specially imported will be administered to medical staff as the first Corona 19 vaccine introduced in Korea.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said that the approved Pfizer products are distinct from the import volume of 10 million people signed by the government directly with Pfizer.

A separate item permission review is currently underway for this quantity.
