The quarantine authorities have issued new quarantine guidelines for the metropolitan area where new confirmed cases are crowded.

The plan is to intensively inspect multi-use facilities where people are crowded, and to further strengthen the management of foreign workers in recent years.

Will that place be included in the management target announced today?

That’s right.

This is a large department store that opened last month and is visited by hundreds of thousands of people on weekends.

Concerns have risen as there are reports that distance distancing has not been observed, and a confirmed case occurred among store employees.

In a situation where the spreading trend is seldom caught, the Central Defense Countermeasure Headquarters gathered heads of local governments in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province to discuss to prevent the spread in the metropolitan area.

First of all, the city of Seoul is planning to continue intensive management by selecting 30 crowded places such as department stores, parks, amusement facilities, and shopping malls by this month.

On weekends, city hall and ward offices also conduct joint inspections.

In the meantime, site inspections are conducted twice a week in 440 suspected establishments that have been reported because they have not followed the quarantine guidelines properly.

Gyeonggi-do also conducts unannounced inspections until the 28th for high-risk workplaces that are vulnerable to group infection.

In particular, a plan was put in place to mandate the use of electronic access registers in public baths where confirmed patients are present.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, which is inspecting the quarantine status of 4,000 foreign employment workplaces, has reaffirmed its existing policy of encouraging inspections in areas where foreigners are concentrated.

The government pointed out that more than 70% of confirmed cases every day come from the metropolitan area as the background for this announcement.

As the possibility of increasing the number of confirmed cases has increased due to recent measures to ease distancing and the spring outing, the spread should be held.

The quarantine authorities are aiming to reduce the number of confirmed cases to 200 nationwide by the 28th next week, when the current social distancing stage is maintained.

Until then, gatherings of 5 or more people nationwide were prohibited, and the use of multi-use facilities such as restaurants and cafes in the metropolitan area was restricted at 10:00 p.m.

However, some quarantine guidelines have been relaxed, such as meetings for both families and meetings with children under the age of 6 who need a guardian.

Following the announcement of some strengthened quarantine guidelines in the metropolitan area today, the quarantine authorities will also discuss quarantine measures for non-metropolitan areas tomorrow (17th).
