[사회]Animals left behind in a zoo in Daegu, “full of icicles, a mess of excrement”

When a zoo in Daegu became difficult to operate in the aftermath of Corona 19, it was argued that animals were neglected to reduce the number of animals.

According to the animal protection group Beagle Rescue Network (Nigyu-hyeop) on the 2nd, a zoo in Daegu has almost left four monkeys, wild animals camels, raccoons, sheep, goats, geese, etc. Not properly supplied.

Since the zoo is not managed, animals have lived in a space full of excrement for over a year.

“The rabbits, sheep and goats neglected in the nearby hills were the subject of civil complaints, and (the zoo side) seems to have hung their necks and killed them cruelly as it became difficult to properly rear and manage animals,” the Bhikkhu said.

Accordingly, it is known that a nearby resident who witnessed the zoo situation has been caring for the animals with their families for several months.

The zoo, located on the hillside, is said to have cut off electricity and water, so the residents’ family has been pumping water from the bottom of the mountain to feed the animals and transporting food and fruit boxes for food.

Looking at the pictures the family published through their blog, the monkey cage was all full of icicles. As icicles fell on the ground and the winter breeze came in from the ceiling, and the monkeys were trembling in the cold, the family provided temporary shelter with blankets and styrofoam boxes.

The family who took care of the animals asked for help through’dongbyeon’ (lawyers protecting the rights of animals), and decided to proceed with the rescue in the non-cooperative.

The Bhigoup said, “It plans to strongly demand the Daegu City Hall and the Daegu Regional Environment Office for quarantine measures for animals. The zoo didn’t properly supply water and feed to the animals, and the animals were cruelly killed in open places. This is clearly abusive behavior.” And animals must be safely quarantined and protected in accordance with relevant laws,” he said.

On the 2nd, on the family blog, interviews with the zoo and Daegu city officials along with the non-government cooperative were also disclosed. The family who took care of the animals said, “The zoo said that they took care of them every day with their best efforts, and the Daegu city officials said that they checked them 9 times last year. I did” appeal.

In response, an official from Daegu City’s Environmental Policy Department said in a call with YTN PLUS, “The zoo has been closed since November of last year, and most of the animals have been moved to nearby zoos. He explained.

He said, “Today (3rd), we will visit the site with experts to see if there has been any abuse at the zoo, and if it is confirmed that there has been abuse, we will sue.”
