[사회]A day before the vaccination over 65 years of age…

[앵커]

AstraZeneca vaccination will begin tomorrow for residents and workers aged 65 or older in nursing hospitals.

The government has concluded that there is no problem with the AstraZeneca safety controversy, and releases specific results of the review this afternoon.

Let’s connect the reporters who are on the scene. Reporter Kim Woo-jun!

From tomorrow, vaccinations will begin for seniors aged 65 or older at nursing hospitals. The hospital is also in the midst of preparations?

[기자]

That’s right.

The place where I am out is the General Affairs Department in the main building of the nursing hospital.

Staff at the back provide detailed guidance to patient caregivers one day ahead of vaccination.

Call directly to inform you of your vaccination status, and fully explain your concerns and questions.

You will see a refrigerator inside the Wonmu Department.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is stored here.

The hospital is busy preparing for the vaccination one day ahead of the vaccination.

Let’s talk more about vaccination with the hospital director. Hello, Director!

[기평석 / 부천 가은병원 원장]

My name is Pyeong-Seok Ki, Director of Gangwon Hospital.

[기자]

Director, tomorrow, vaccination will start for those over 65 years old. What are you focusing on?

[기평석 / 부천 가은병원 원장]

There are now over 140 vials after the first vaccination is done. It is safely stored in a refrigerator dedicated to vaccines. Additional vaccines will be available until tomorrow.

Right now, at our hospital, we are notifying the guardians about the vaccine, and we are getting their consent. Our medical staff are preparing for possible side effects.

[기자]

Now I have to be curious about the scale as well. What is the total consent rate with the candidates for vaccination tomorrow at this hospital?

[기평석 / 부천 가은병원 원장]

There are 268 people who can be vaccinated at our hospital. Right now, the consent rate is over 90%. Probably because of concerns over side effects, you are putting off your consent considerably.

I am thinking that if it is more established that there are no side effects, the consent rate will probably go up a little more.

[기자]

Previously, subjects under the age of 65 were also vaccinated against AstraZeneca. As mentioned earlier, there are some concerns about side effects. How was the site reaction?

[기평석 / 부천 가은병원 원장]

Most of the side effects occur mostly in young people. And older people tend to have fewer side effects.

And the side effect is a side effect of a day or two in a very short period of time, so most of them are very satisfied with the vaccination after the process.

[기자]

Thank you, Director. The targets for this vaccination are about 376,000 people aged 65 and over in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities nationwide.

The AstraZeneca vaccination interval set by the government is 10 weeks.

Therefore, those who receive the vaccination from tomorrow will start the second vaccination again from the first week of June, 3 months later.

[앵커]

There were some concerns about the stability of AstraZeneca, but the government concluded that there was no problem, right?

[기자]

That’s right.

The government previously planned to give vaccinations before medical staff because the elderly 65 years of age or older are vulnerable to group infection and the mortality rate is high when infected.

However, the vaccination was withheld for a while due to lack of data to determine the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

In the midst of this, there have been concerns about a’thrombosis’ in which blood clots and lumps are formed related to AstraZeneca.

The government authorities took full account of public unrest and took time to review stability over time.

As a result, I came to a clear conclusion that there were no problems.

The government also saw that the AstraZeneca vaccination was not related to the formation of blood clots, even by the European Medicines Agency.

He explained that the WHO vaccination recommendations and cases of adverse reactions at home and abroad were carefully reviewed.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-gyun will announce the results of a detailed review of vaccine safety this afternoon to completely end AstraZeneca’s mistrust.

To date, more than 650,000 people have completed the first vaccination,

About 600,000 people, about 90% of them, received the AstraZeneca vaccine.
