The number of confirmed cases related to the Eastern Detention Center in Seoul increased by 30 within a day, and the cumulative number of patients reached 800.
As the confirmed cases here were confirmed after attending the court or being transferred to another prison, the correctional authorities decided to conduct a fourth thorough investigation.

Eastern detention center outbreaks have increased?

That’s right. Cumulative confirmed cases related to the eastern detention center here, as of 0 o’clock today, totaled 792.
That’s 30 more people than yesterday.
It has 750 prisoners, 21 employees, and 21 family members and acquaintances.
A little while ago, around 9 am, three convoy buses from the Ministry of Justice left this place one after another.
It appears that non-diagnostics are being moved to other correctional facilities such as Gangwon and Daegu.
However, correctional authorities are still tense as prisoners who have been tested negative here and have been transferred to other prisons are again confirmed.
On the 23rd, 17 people who were transferred from this eastern detention center to other correctional facilities were confirmed.
16 people went to Seoul Southern Prison and 1 person went to Gangwon Northern Prison.
The quarantine authorities believe that all of them were transferred from the eastern detention center to an infected state.
Including this, 837 people were confirmed in correctional facilities nationwide such as Gwangju Prison.
It was also confirmed that confirmed cases of the Eastern Detention Center were present at the court by mid-month.
There are 1 in the Seoul Central District Court, 70 in the Seoul Northern District Court, and 11 in the Seoul Eastern District Court.
Each court quarantines the entire court and conducts diagnostic tests on judges and employees classified as contacts.
As the trend of spreading inside correctional facilities continued, Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol gave a special order to the National Prosecutors’ Office to lift the wanted for fines of less than 10 million won.

The 4th total inspection is going on at the eastern detention center?

That’s right. The Ministry of Justice is preparing a thorough examination for prisoners and employees today (30th).
This is the fourth time.
It covers a total of 1,840 employees and prisoners.
Earlier, on the 27th of last month, after one employee was confirmed, 185 additional confirmed cases, 298 in the second, and 233 in the third were found in the first full examination.
As there are about 200 confirmed cases in each test, there is a concern that a large group infection will occur again in this fourth test.
Epidemiological investigations revealed that the eastern detention center had a typical’three mil’ structure.
The apartment-type structure was not well ventilated, and it was difficult to separate and accommodate confirmed patients.
The detention center, which has a capacity of 2,000 people, actually accommodated 2,400 people.
Reporters were captured by cameras of some detainees waving towels out of the detention center window or announcing the internal situation of eight people in a room.
Yesterday (29th), one person died.
A man in his 60s was diagnosed as being confirmed, and was released from prison on the 24th and died while undergoing quarantine treatment at the Life Therapy Center.
The Ministry of Justice said the man was a person with an underlying medical condition who had been receiving hemodialysis.
The health authorities plan to designate the Dongbu detention center itself as a life treatment center and manage it as the number of confirmed cases continues to appear among prisoners.
