[사회][현장영상] “After vaccination, adverse reactions…pain, fever, etc. may appear”

[앵커]

The day after tomorrow, an expert briefing session will soon be held to address citizens’ curiosity ahead of the COVID-19 vaccination starting on the 26th.

At today’s briefing, there will be questions and answers related to precautions that you must know for safe vaccination, the efficacy of the vaccine, antibody formation, and adverse reaction cases.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention prepared a briefing session today by receiving inquiries from citizens of the National Communication Group and the entrance reporters in advance.

Let’s see the scene screen.

Since the actual vaccination begins, we will inform the vaccination targets and medical staff about the precautions before, at the time of vaccination, and after vaccination for COVID-19.

First of all, I will tell you about the precautions before getting vaccinated.

Vaccination recipients must check the scheduled vaccination location and time, stay in good shape, and see a doctor before vaccination.

When you receive a pre-examination, you must record your history of allergies to drugs, cosmetics, food, and other types of vaccinations in detail on the pre-check and explain to your doctor.

Do not receive the vaccination during the first vaccination or if you have a severe allergic reaction such as anaphylaxis to the components of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition, it is necessary to postpone vaccination if you suspect COVID-19 infection or if you have an acute condition such as fever.

Currently, vaccination is not recommended for pregnant women and children and adolescents until the results of clinical studies on safety and efficacy after vaccination are available.

In addition, the 1st and 2nd vaccination intervals for each COVID-19 vaccine must be observed, and the same vaccine must be used.

For reference, the AstraZeneca vaccine’s vaccination interval is recommended from 8 to 12 weeks, and the Pfizer vaccine is scheduled to be administered every 3 weeks.

In addition, vaccinations for other infectious diseases must be performed at least 14 days apart from the COVID-19 vaccination.

There is not yet clear evidence for simultaneous vaccination, so it is recommended to leave two weeks apart.

I will tell you about the precautions after vaccination.

For the occurrence and action of adverse reactions after vaccination, all vaccination completed persons should stay at the vaccination facility for 15 to 30 minutes after vaccination and observe whether adverse reactions occur, and at least 3 hours after returning home.

It is recommended to observe for at least 15 minutes, but for those who have had allergies before, 30 minutes of observation is recommended.

The inoculation site should be kept clean at all times. At the same time, it is necessary to observe with special attention for at least 3 days after inoculation. If you have a high fever or other physical symptoms than usual, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

In the case of elderly people, it is recommended that other people be present so that they are not alone so that they can receive help in the event of symptoms after vaccination.

It is related to adverse reactions after vaccination.

Adverse reactions after the COVID-19 vaccination may include local reactions such as pain or swelling and redness at the vaccination site.

In addition, systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting may appear. However, most of the adverse reactions that are common after vaccinations disappear within a few days.

Pain or swelling at the vaccination site may be helpful if you apply a cold towel to the vaccination site, or if you have systemic abnormalities such as muscle pain or fatigue.

However, if symptoms such as an allergic reaction appear, or if you have a high fever and become severe enough to interfere with your daily life, you must visit a medical institution for treatment.

Also, if you have a severe allergic reaction, you will need to call 911 immediately or seek medical attention from the nearest emergency room.

After vaccination, the most recently known adverse reaction is anaphylaxis, a serious allergic reaction.

It occurs very rarely, but it is an emergency that occurs within minutes after vaccination and progresses rapidly, and management and response at the vaccination institution is important.

Currently, we are conducting preliminary training for medical personnel to promptly receive emergency treatment through screening for anaphylaxis risk groups for medical personnel and 15 to 30 minutes after vaccination.

In addition, we will respond by preparing a response system such as distributing emergency medicines such as epinephrine at vaccination periods and emergency medical facilities, and urgently transferring patients with adverse reactions through a cooperation system with the Fire Department.

If you suspect an adverse reaction, you can check the symptoms and receive instructions on how to cope with the health status check after vaccination on the vaccination helper website.

In addition, medical institutions that have treated adverse reactions after vaccination can report adverse reactions through the COVID-19 vaccination management system and those receiving vaccinations through the vaccination helper website.

As mentioned earlier, common adverse reactions of the COVID-19 vaccination reported in the US and UK until recently include skin symptoms such as pain and redness, headache, fatigue or rash at the vaccination site, and most of them occur within a day or two after vaccination. It occurred and reported disappearing within a few days.

In cases of facial paralysis and death reported as severe adverse reactions, causality with the vaccine has not been reported, and anaphylaxis, which may appear differently from person to person due to immunological hypersensitivity reactions, is rarely reported to those who received the vaccine.

Next, I will tell you about the national compensation system for vaccination victims.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention operates a national compensation system for adverse reactions that inevitably occur after vaccination based on Article 71 of the Infectious Disease Prevention Act.

After vaccination, a person who has received the vaccination reported to the local public health center due to an adverse reaction can apply for compensation at the local public health center by completing the required documents for compensation application.

Within 120 days of applying for compensation, compensation will be decided after deliberation by the Vaccination Damage Compensation Committee.

National compensation for vaccination damage is paid out-of-pocket for medical treatment, nursing care, temporary disability compensation, temporary death compensation, and funeral expenses.

In addition, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) has expanded the application standard of the National Compensation System from the existing copayment of 300,000 won or more to the full amount to strengthen the national responsibility for adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccination. We plan to expand and operate the system’s damage compensation range.
