There has been a report that a man in his 60s, riding a bicycle and running on a dedicated road, was hit by an illegal restaurant sign and died after stumbling over a’stepping stone’.

The bereaved side filed a complaint with the police saying that both the city hall and the restaurant should be responsible.

The bike path in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do, is crowded on Saturday in February.

A bicycle running downhill gets caught in a square stone lying on the side of the road.

A 60-year-old man riding a bicycle struck his head against a restaurant signpost right in front of him.

He was taken to the hospital by reporting around him, but he died.

At the time, the man stumbled and was a’stepping stone’ where a stopped cyclist could rest on one foot.

Somehow, it fell out of its original position and was lying on its side.

Residents say that the bike they passed was in good condition to stumble, but it remained the same for several months.

[사고 목격자 : (돌이) 빠져서 옆으로 길게 뚱뚱하게 누워져 있었거든요. 그게 고정이 안 돼 있고 살짝만 건드려도 빠졌기 때문에 제가 오래전부터 이게 계속 쓰러져 있던 걸 봤거든요.]

We asked the city hall bike road team how the stone was pulled and left unattended.

In the meantime, it wasn’t under management, and the answer was that we don’t know who installed it.

After the death, the city hall set up a gaze guidance rod in the place where the stepping stone was located.

[시청 관계자 : 주행하는 공간에 들어와 있으면 문제가 되지만 차선 밖이면 그건 다른 문제거든요. 경찰서에서도 빨리 그 부분을 포장해서 마감하라고….]

The outdoor billboards hit by a fallen man on the head were also a facility that shouldn’t be there.

Because it is a development restricted area outside the restaurant site, it is not possible to install signboards using pillars at all.

If it is as it was, it should not be installed within 50cm and 1m of sidewalks or roads, respectively, but all of these have been violated.

The distance between the place where the outdoor billboard pole was hit by the dead man and the car’s road is less than 1 meter.

Signs, which had not been covered by the crackdown, were removed only after the accident.

[간판 설치 음식점 관계자 : 규격에 맞는 간판은 하나도 없다고 보셔야죠. 그걸 다 맞추면 간판의 역할을 못 하니까…. 마음은 너무너무 아프죠.]

The bereaved side filed a complaint with the police saying that both the city hall and the restaurant where the sign was placed were liable for death.

The police are looking back at the case that had been dealt with as a simple lawsuit.
