A 47-day-old infant died with several skull fractures in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do.

The police applied for a warrant by applying the crime of abuse and fatality to the mother, but it was dismissed by the court, and the prosecution is now investigating in a state of disability.

It was about 4:30 pm on July 6 last year that a report was received that a 47-day-old boy was not breathing.

The baby was in cardiac arrest when the mother reported it.

The baby was taken to the emergency room of this hospital under CPR by an paramedic, but died.

However, on CT taken by medical staff after the baby’s death, multiple fractures were identified in several places in the skull.

Cerebral hemorrhage was also seen in several places, and hemoglobin levels fell by one third.

The doctor who looked at explained that it was a serious injury that couldn’t be seen with a single drop.

[병원 관계자 : (두개골) 한 바퀴 돌려서 다 골절이에요. 좌측, 후두부, 앞쪽 할 거 없이 한 번의 충격으로 올 수 없어요. 한 번 떨어뜨린 거로는. 학대가 아닐 수가 없는 거죠.]

At the time, the mother said that the baby who had been eating formula was sick during a police investigation, and after that, she had not breathed, so she called 911.

It has been reported that the medical staff asked if they could die because of that, saying that they had hit the baby’s back hard the day before.

[병원 관계자 : (보호자는) 아침부터 아기가 이상했다, 얼굴이 붉으락푸르락 노랗게 됐다가 보라색 됐다가…. 내가 어제 화가 나서 아기 등을 세게 확 쳤는데 그것 때문에 잘못된 게 아닌가요, (의료진에게 물었어요.)]

Medical staff suspected of abuse immediately reported to the police.

A police investigation revealed that the mother suffered from postpartum depression.

Parents are said to have denied abuse charges.

The police applied for a warrant of detention against the mother for child abuse and lethality, and the father was charged with neglect.

However, the court dismissed the warrant, claiming that the charges were controversial and lacked a clarification on the motives and methods of the crime.

Six months after the incident, the prosecution has taken over the case from the police at the end of October last year and is continuing further investigations.
