This is a series of reports from YTN that point out the problem of the unmanned parking system that cannot identify fake license plates.

Last year, the government introduced a new license plate with a hologram saying it would block fake license plates, which revealed a flaw in preventing piracy.

This is because the breaker cameras in parking lots only recognize the shape of letters, but not holograms.

Reporter Park Hee-jae reports.

An unregistered vehicle that slowly passes through an unmanned circuit breaker and enters the apartment parking lot.

The license plate is a fake paper made from a copy of the resident’s vehicle.

It is a crime that exploits the fact that a breaker camera identifies license plates only by recognizing letters and numbers.

With the current unmanned parking system, it is impossible to distinguish between counterfeiting and falsification of license plates.

So, the reporters experimented to see if they also recognize license plates drawn by hand on paper.

The result is safe.

It was recognized as a registered vehicle and the breaker went up right away.

What about the new license plate that the government introduced last year to stop fake license plates?

There is a hologram, but it is useless in an unmanned parking control system.

This is because the breaker camera only recognizes the numbered area.

Are there any supplements?

In addition to the vehicle number, experts suggested vehicle type and color recognition as an alternative.

However, even in this case, if a vehicle of the same color and a fake license plate is attached to the same vehicle type, it cannot be filtered.

Crimes related to fake license plates are happening all over the world.

In February of last year, 50 vehicles were caught in Gangnam, Seoul, where a vehicle was ordered to stop with a forged paper license plate attached to it.

Before it develops into a bigger crime, there seems to be a need to make up for the loopholes of the unmanned parking control system even in major national facilities such as government buildings.
