[사회][뉴있저] SK hynix incentives controversy and self-employed sighs

SK hynix, one of Korea’s leading semiconductor companies.

As the semiconductor industry continued to boom despite the Corona 19 crisis, last year’s operating profit increased by 84% compared to the previous year.

At the end of last month, SK hynix announced to its employees that “up to 20% of their annual salary will be paid as incentives.”

In the case of a manager’s salary with an annual salary of 60 million won, only 12 million won will be received as an incentive.

However, SK Hynix employees complained, saying,’Not only our performance, but also very little compared to our competitors’.

In fact, it is known that the semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics, a rival, received about half of the annual salary only as an incentive.

As the controversy grew, SK Chairman Tae-won Choi declared, “I will return my annual salary of 3 billion won and share it with the employees,” but employees’ dissatisfaction is heating up as they try to ignore legitimate requests.

It is said that there is even a movement to move to a competitor.

The media are also pouring out related reports.

Of course, it would be natural for companies that earn a lot of money to share profits with their employees.

However, not a few citizens say that the so-called money feasts of employees of large corporations are bitter.

In particular, the aviation industry, travel industry, and self-employed people who are struggling to make a living as the distance between them continues to take long unpaid leave due to the COVID-19 outbreak, responded as “a different world story.”

Related articles include comments from non-regular workers saying, “I’m so envious of receiving incentives”, “I wish I could receive a 1 million won disaster subsidy as soon as possible.” The appeal of self-employed people was also noticeable.

In the midst of this, discussions about the introduction of a profit-sharing system or a loss compensation system for self-employed people to share the profits of companies that benefited from the corona 19 direct hit and support the victims are not making progress in the battles between the opposition parties.

However, as the politicians have shown some consensus on the 4th disaster subsidy payment, I look forward to speeding up even a little.
