[사설] National Assembly’s industrial accident hearing ended with CEO face-off and fake news

As expected, it was the GapJil hearing of the lawmakers. The National Assembly’s industrial accident hearing, held for the first time on the 22nd, ended with embarrassment and disgrace to entrepreneurs. It was originally set up with the intent of calling the CEOs of 9 large corporations with many industrial accident deaths to discuss prevention measures for industrial accidents, but such a productive discussion was hard to find.

Rather, the ruling party’s parliamentarian who was in charge of preventing fake news made a skit in which the corporate CEO was condemned with fake news. Noh Woong-rae, head of the media and media coexistence TF of the Democratic Party, raised suspicion of visiting POSCO Chairman Choi Jeong-woo. When President Choi visited Tokyo, Japan, he revealed a picture and urged him to say, “Isn’t it a shrine visit?” . In the process, suspicion of photo manipulation was raised. Initially, there was a lotus pattern that symbolizes the temple, but it was because it was erased in the photo released by Rep. Roh. Apart from the manipulation controversy, there is no surprise in itself that it is questioning whether to visit a shrine at an industrial accident hearing.

The opposition party is also not very different. It is the power of the people who first called for business officials to ask the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee to address the issue of industrial accidents. Rep. Im Ja, a secretary of the opposition party of Hwannowi, said to Chairman Choi, “It was ridiculous to see that he not attended the hearing with a certificate of back sprain and tension. Rep. Kim Woong also gave a pinzan to Chairman Choi, saying, “(Workers) are uncomfortable with back pain, but how painful it would be if they died after being compressed by a roller.”

As industrial accidents and deaths occur one after the other, the National Assembly can alert companies. However, it would have been possible to call an occupational safety expert or person in charge to discuss the measures to prevent industrial accidents in detail, but it is difficult to understand that the CEO was invited to give a face. It is highly likely to be an election-conscious show. In order to have a hearing, it must be a place to listen to any difficulties in the industry and to resolve those difficulties. Wouldn’t it be hard to reduce industrial accidents just by yelling without an alternative?
