[말랑리뷰]Looking at the real Hyundai’Ioniq 5′(video)

[이데일리TV 김종호 기자] The real thing of the first exclusive electric car’Ioniq 5′, which was ambitiously introduced by the company, was unveiled for the first time. Hyundai Motor Company held a public event at the’Ioniq 5 Square’ located in the office building in Wonhyo-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the 17th and 18th. An official from Hyundai Motors said, “The Wonhyoro office building was the starting point for Hyundai Motors.” “Ionik 5 was the first exclusive electric car model, so we set up an exhibition hall here in consideration of its symbolism.”

Ioniq 5, which was unveiled at the scene, was the most conspicuous for its futuristic design. In the attempts that were not found in existing automobile designs, such as actively utilizing the square symbolizing’pixels’, the impression of a’future car’ was deeply expressed. The unique color of silver tone was enough to give the impression of using future materials.

The’parametric pixel’ design was applied to the front headlights, taillights, wheels, and electric charging ports, giving the feeling of penetrating analog and digital. The’clamshell hood’, which was not seen before, was reflected in the upper part. The design that can be folded and unfolded like a seashell is reflected, and the hood and fender parts are integrated into a single panel.

The biggest feature was the’digital side mirror’. After attaching a camera instead of a mirror, it was trimmed smaller and sharper than a typical side mirror to reduce air resistance. Side information entered through the camera can be checked through the in-vehicle monitor. Hyundai Motors explained that it will greatly reduce blind spots compared to the existing side mirrors, thereby enhancing stability.

The interior of the IONIQ 5 was also impressive. Most of the ceiling was decorated with glass, so I could feel a sense of openness. The’center console box’ as well as the seats can be moved back and forth, enabling efficient use of the interior space depending on the occupants. When the rear seats were folded, it was possible to generously even the’car thin’, which is the latest trend. From the first impression of looking at the exterior, you might think that the interior would be narrow, but I didn’t really feel that it was narrow.

However, compared to the spacious interior space, the size of the trunk was smaller than expected. The’pronque (front + trunk)’, which is only available in electric vehicles, was at the level of being filled with a few emergency supplies. A driver who kept a lot of luggage in the car seemed to be somewhat uncomfortable. The interior seats are fabric seats, not leather. Although it felt fluffy, I was worried that it would be easily contaminated.

Hyundai Motor Company is planning to officially release the Ioniq 5, which is currently under contract, next month. It will also advance to Europe and North America within this year. The launch price will be revealed with the launch next month. The estimated price is around 50 million won. Considering the individual consumption tax benefits (up to 3 million won) and purchase subsidies (up to 12 million won) applied to electric vehicles, the actual purchase price of consumers is expected to drop to the end of the 30 million won range.

On the other hand, on the 9th, Kia also unveiled a teaser video and photo of’EV6′, the first exclusive electric vehicle that has creatively embodied future-oriented characters. Like the Ioniq 5, the EV6 is a dynamic SUV-shaped design optimized for electric vehicles, showing a futuristic yet original feeling.

The front daytime running light (DRL) shows a refined image by applying a’moving light pattern’ designed with inspiration from the electronic pixels that make up the digital image. The future-oriented impression was also felt in the rear part of the rear LED cluster, especially the concise yet sharply trimmed side silhouette. The line from the front hood to the rear spoiler exudes a sharp image. The smoothly tilted windshield glass also gave a sense of the dynamics unique to electric vehicles.
