[이데일리TV 김종호 기자] With the success of the box office with the new electric car’Ioniq 5’recently unveiled by Kia, attention is focused on whether Kia will continue the atmosphere with the release of’EV6′.

Kia to unveil its first dedicated electric car’EV6′

On the 9th, Kia unveiled a teaser video and photo of EV6 that creatively embodied future-oriented characters. Earlier, Kia announced a new mission and logo in January and announced plans to introduce seven new exclusive electric vehicle lineups by 2027. The EV6 unveiled this time is the first model in Kia’s exclusive electric vehicle lineup developed based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

The EV6, which was confirmed through the released teaser video and photos, is a dynamic SUV-shaped design optimized for electric vehicles, showing a futuristic yet original feeling. The front daytime running light (DRL) shows a refined image by applying a’moving light pattern’ designed with inspiration from the electronic pixels that make up the digital image. The future-oriented impression was also felt on the rear part and the part where the rear LED cluster was applied.

In particular, the concise yet sharply trimmed side silhouette was impressive. The line from the front hood to the rear spoiler exudes a sharp image. The smoothly tilted windshield glass also gave a sense of the dynamics unique to electric vehicles.

After Kia unveiled the EV6, online communities and others made favorable comments by comparing the new electric vehicle Ioniq 5 and EV6 previously unveiled by Hyundai Motor Company. Like the Ioniq 5, the evaluation that the future-oriented electric car design was impressive in the EV6 was dominant. The entire exterior and interior were still not disclosed, but it was evaluated that it was sufficient to raise expectations in the market. A Kia official said, “In EV6, there is a hidden design to provide customers with a bold, original and creative mobility experience.”

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Company’s first dedicated electric vehicle Ioniq 5 made a good mark by setting a new record in the history of automobiles in Korea. On the 25th of last month, Hyundai Motor Company announced that the number of contracts on the first day of the Ioniq 5, which entered into a pre-contract through branches nationwide, recorded 23,760 units. This is a whopping 6,466 units of Hyundai Motor Company’s 6th-generation’Grandeur’ facelift (partial change) released in November 2019, exceeding the record number of pre-contracts (17,294 units) for Hyundai Motor Company as of the first day. It surpassed the record of the number of pre-contracted vehicles for both electric vehicles and internal combustion engines. A Hyundai Motor Company official said, “Ioniq 5 was the first Hyundai Motor Company to provide a whole new experience with innovative design and cutting-edge technology. “It is because it has responded to the demands and expectations of customers for its exclusive electric vehicle.”

Earlier, on the afternoon of the 23rd of last month, Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the new electric car Ioniq 5 for the first time in the global market. Ioniq 5 is the first model to apply the exclusive electric vehicle platform’E-GMP’ developed by Hyundai Motor Company. Hyundai Motor Company is expected to enter into a pre-contract with Ioniq 5 from the 25th and officially release it in April. It will also advance to Europe and North America within this year.

Hyundai Motor Company set the launch price of the Ioniq 5 in the early mid-range of 50 million won. The final price is scheduled to be released along with the official launch in Korea in April. Considering the individual consumption tax benefits (up to 3 million won) and purchase subsidies (up to 12 million won) applied to electric vehicles, the actual purchase price of consumers is expected to drop to the end of the 30 million won range.

The industry is watching with interest whether Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 and Kia’s EV6 will emerge as rivals for the electric vehicle industry leader’Tesla’.
