“The cohort quarantine means that everyone inside just dies.”
The older sister A of Kim Mo, a nursing assistant at the Hyoplus Nursing Hospital (Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do), isolated from the same group (cohort), sobbed said. My younger brother, Kim, voluntarily remained at the nursing hospital on the 11th of last month, saying, “I will take care of the patient.” It was just after the hospital was quarantined in a cohort due to the collective infection of corona19 confirmed patients.

About two weeks later, on the 24th of last month, Mr. Kim was also diagnosed with Corona 19. He received negative tests on three tests, but could not avoid cross-infection. Kim, who looked at patients as well as young people even in middle-aged age, said he lost consciousness on the 30th of last month. Currently, he is a severely ill patient receiving ECMO, an artificial cardiopulmonary device, at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do.

“The country has fallen into a critical position in the place of what to do”

The end of the cohort isolation was a tragedy. On the 6th, Mr. Kim’s older sister, Mr. A, couldn’t hold back his tears, saying, “It’s too unfair.” When asked “when do you leave the hospital,” the younger brother said to the family every time, “I can’t go out. There are still many elderly people to take care of in the hospital.” Mr. A said, “As the patient was not transferred to the hospital in time, the younger brother was forced to remain in the hospital. “Who will be in charge of the elderly,” he said. “It’s like my younger brother took over what the country was supposed to do.

Kim said that during the quarantine period, “it’s okay” and did not express her condition. However, when he collapsed and was taken to the hospital, the doctor who examined him said, “Kim’s normal lungs are only the size of a palm.” Mr. A said, “I was so sick, and without a word, I remained in the hospital and took care of the patient.” He said, “It has been more than 20 days since my younger brother was unable to leave the hospital. No matter how much there were no beds, it is unconvincing that the patient could not be sent to another hospital during that period.”

“Is Corona 19 formed yesterday? What did you do in a year”

Mr. A also claimed that there was little support from the quarantine authorities at the time of cohort containment. “We didn’t even provide meals to employees who couldn’t sleep because of the patient. Later, he said he ate the rice himself. I was so upset that I sent ramen into the hospital.” Mr. A said, “Does it make sense not to give food to the medical staff in the nursing hospital while sending all the food to the self-sufficient people? Without the medical staff, all the remaining patients would have died.”

In this hospital alone, 48 related deaths (as of 6 days) became a problem, and the government announced related measures on the 3rd. Regarding this, Mr. A angered, “If you let so many people die and take us as a lesson, doesn’t it mean that there hasn’t been a basic manual?” “Did Corona 19 occur in December? What did you do in nearly a year? It’s terrible why we should be a pilot case.”

“Cohort is the father of hell”

Medical staff B, who kept the hospital together with Kim, also said, “The situation is very sad.” According to Mr. B, caregivers and nurses who were confirmed to be confirmed for Corona 19 had shortened their work as they went outside, but adequate recruitment of those personnel was not made. Mr. B said, “Because of the nature of nursing hospitals, there are many elderly people who need care, but related personnel such as nursing care workers were not properly expanded.” “There was no measure of who cares for the remaining patients.” Although the Central Accident Control Center dispatched medical personnel, Mr. B claims that most of them were newbies who had never changed diapers for patients.

Mr. B described the cohort containment as “the father of hell” and “the worst disaster wartime situation”. He said, “Even if I asked for support, I only received an answer saying’No.’ “There was no way for us without public authority to deal with outside companies.” “Cohort isolation only creates a sense of social fear and completely isolates the person within it. It is a structure that has no choice but to go out of death.”

He also mentioned the lack of beds. 27 patients died while waiting for a bed at this hospital. Mr. B said, “It was common for elderly patients to go down to Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, and even Yeongju and Sangju in Gyeongsangbuk-do in that condition because there was no bed. I heard this, but I wondered why our patients couldn’t go to the nearest hospital.”

Mr. A and Mr. B said, “Please give me strength so that Mr. Kim can wake up again.” Mr. A beat his heart saying he regrets leaving his younger brother in the hospital. “If I knew it would be like this, I would have told them to come out right away. Even if I came out a bit quickly, even if I had paid attention to the hospital, my younger brother wouldn’t have been lying like that… ”
