It was revealed late that the incumbent chief prosecutor retired during a police investigation after being accused of sexual harassment. Immediately after being sued, the prosecutor resigned by submitting his resignation to the prosecution. Later, in a police investigation, he said, “I am an office worker” and cheated on his job.

According to the prosecutors’ office and the police on the 17th, prosecutor A, who was working at a local prosecutor’s office, was sued in December of last year for forcibly harassing a woman he met through internet chat. The victim, Mr. B, filed a complaint through the National Shinmungo, which is run by the National Rights Commission, and the Commission transferred the case to the competent police agency. Prosecutor A and Mr. B got to know through an internet chat site, and the point of the complaint is that the crime was committed at an offline meeting in November last year.

At the end of December of last year, right after he was sued, Prosecutor A applied for honorary retirement to the prosecutors’ office, and was dismissed as of February 1st. Immediately after his retirement, he was arrested for a criminal case last month and was summoned by the police. At this meeting, Prosecutor A is said to have identified his job as an office worker.

As a result of the investigation, the police judged that there was insufficient evidence to prove the allegations, and after deciding not to send the case, they sent the record of the case to the prosecution. In accordance with the adjustment of the prosecutor’s right to investigate, even if the police decides to be innocent and terminates the investigation on their own and decides not to send them back, the records are sent to the prosecution. After reviewing the records, the prosecution may request a supplementary investigation or re-investigation.

During the record review, the prosecution was belatedly aware of the charges of sexual harassment and the charges of Prosecutor A, and requested a re-investigation to the police, saying, “As it is the prosecutor’s criminal charge, it is necessary to investigate more closely.”

Currently, a police re-investigation is under way, and the Prosecutor of Director A is said to be stubbornly denying the alleged harassment.
