As foreign ministry officials who visited Iran for the early release of the captured Korean Chemie return without much success, the families of the detained sailors are unable to hide their anxiety. The Korean shipbuilding company Chemiho is appealing for damage, saying, “Due to prolonged detention, the loss is rising into snowballs.”

Ministry of Foreign Affairs returns home without results after negotiations with Iran on the 14th

On the 14th, when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs negotiator returned to Korea, Shin Mo, the mother of 20-year-old Jeon, the third-class voyage on the Korean Chemie, said, “I felt despair over the results of the government’s negotiations.” Shin said in a telephone interview with the JoongAng Ilbo that day, “a Korean ship was captured due to diplomatic issues with Iran and the United States, but the government is not actively asking for help from the United States.”

When asked, “Is the communication between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the family good?” he appealed to the question, “(The Ministry of Foreign Affairs) often calls to inform you of the situation, but what good is that.” .

Shin, who talked on the phone with his son Jeon on the 10th for about two minutes, said, “I can’t believe it because my son eats well and is doing well, so don’t worry, but I can’t see it.”

Jeon, who graduated from Maritime High School in February of last year, was captured on the 4th of last year after embarking on the Kemi, South Korea for his first overseas voyage. In addition to Mr. Chun, 20 people were on board, including 4 Korean sailors, 11 Myanmar, 2 Indonesians, and 2 Vietnam.

DM Shiping, a shipping company in Korea Chemie, was frustrated, saying, “There is no action that can be taken from the standpoint of the company.” Tycoon Shipping Director Lee Cheon-hee, who manages DM Shipping, said, “As Iran claims, there is no answer even if we ask Iran for data on marine pollution that is the cause of the arrest. I have to board the Kemi, but the Iranian government is not allowing me to do this either.” He added, “There is currently no action that the shipbuilder can do.”

The shipbuilder’s side appealed for damage after the Korean Chemie was detained for about ten days. Director Lee said, “The ship rental fee is 10,000 dollars a day, and the deferral fee incurred due to the delay in unloading cargo is 7,000 dollars a day.” If 7200 tons of chemicals shipped to Korea Chemie are deteriorated due to poor management, the amount of damage will increase further.”

Shipping company’s “loss of 200 million won… It increases more and more”

The shipbuilder emphasized again that “fortunately there is no problem with the safety of the crew.” Lee, who spoke on the phone with the captain of Kemiho Korea on the 10th, said, “The Korean Kemiho is loaded with food to eat until the 27th. It seems, but the anxiety of the sailors is growing in the life of detention without weakness.” Currently, the Korean Chemi is anchored in Bandar Abbas, Iran.

Earlier, on the 7th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff left Korea for negotiations with Iran, and on the 10th, the first vice minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong-gun left the country. Negotiations continued for two days, but negotiations broke down due to the issue of $7 billion (7 trillion won) of crude oil exports from Iran, which was frozen at a commercial bank in Korea. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to continue discussions on Iran’s crude oil exports to resolve the detention of the Korean Chemie even after returning home.
