The power of the people in the preliminary voting for the Busan Mayor’s by-election, Park Hyung-joon’s supporters printed a ballot and posted it online, and the election committee began to confirm the fact.

The Busan Metropolitan Election Commission (hereinafter referred to as the Election Commission) announced on the 3rd that “We are checking the facts by uploading a photo of the ballot that was signed to Candidate Park on SNS.”

The problem was a post on an online community bulletin board. In the post, there is a scene in which a user uploaded a photo of a ballot that he signed on to the Kakao Talk open chat room, which is presumed to be a meeting of candidate Park Hyung-jun supporters.

Article 166-2 of the current Public Official Election Act stipulates that’anyone shall not photograph a ballot in the voting booth.’ Violation of this shall be punished by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won in accordance with Article 256 of the same Act. In principle, publicly available ballots are invalid.

The Busan City Election Commission said, “The Election Commission Cyber Fair Election Support Team is aware of this post and is grasping the facts. If there is a need for IP tracking in the future, we plan to ask the police for an investigation.”
