The government is contemplating a plan to conduct the national examination for doctors in January next year. This is to secure even one more on-site doctor in a situation where the wave of the third pandemic of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) is expected to continue until next year. However, since it actually gives an opportunity to retake the national time, how to persuade the public opinion is a variable.

According to the JoongAng Ilbo coverage on the 30th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is promisingly considering a plan to take the doctor’s national practical examination in January next year. The timing is before the graduation season in February after the 85th medical examination (January 7-8). However, it is expected that the 86th national practical exam, scheduled for the second half of next year (for current medical students, 3rd graders), will be held in January and September, rather than the 85th national reexamination.

National medical school students in the 4th grade rejected the national politics last August, saying that the government unilaterally pushed for medical policies such as expanding medical school gardens and establishing public medical schools. According to the current situation, the number of new doctors released early next year will be 2,700 less than the previous year. The number of willingness to work as training hospitals, military doctors, and public health doctors (public affairs doctors) will decrease. It is a considerable burden on medical sites that are already overloaded with Corona 19 response. A doctor’s license is issued only after passing both national writing and practical skills. Without a doctor’s license, medical practice is impossible.

A government official said, “From the application for enlistment of military medical officers in February next year, training doctors, public affairs doctors, etc. (the problem of supply and demand for medical personnel) are intertwined,” said a government official. “Now there is not much time left.”

The Korea National Examination Institute for Health and Medical Services, which supervises the doctor’s examination, hopes that the test date will be decided as soon as possible. It is said that it is physically possible to take the exam in January as long as it is decided whether it is the 85th national examination retake or the 86th early implementation. For national practice, preparations such as recruitment of patient actors for clinical trials (CPX), human body model management to evaluate more than 50 basic procedures such as blood collection and catheter insertion are difficult. In addition, it is important to manage the schedule as the exam is only held at the National Assembly in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.

The medical law enforcement decree is an obstacle. The enforcement ordinance stipulates that, in order to take the doctor’s office, the necessary matters for the test must be announced 90 days before the test. However, in the political and medical circles, there is an opinion that it can be resolved through the government’s active administrative committee. Even if they violate the enforcement ordinance, they can receive immunity according to the decision of the active administrative committee. However, if the actual schedule is announced so urgently, it is feared that it will affect the acceptance rate.

One medical student said, “The later the announcement is made, the shorter the period to prepare for the practical exam will be,” he said. “There may be disadvantages to students taking the exam first.”

In addition, how to persuade public opinion against giving the opportunity to retake the national time is also a key issue. The dissenting opinion is mainstream within the ruling Democratic Party. Democratic supporters are also in a strong position, saying, “There is no relief. Because of this, the government frustrated with the first and second half test cards, not relief or retest.
