An official from Siheung City said on the 9th that four officials from Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province, voluntarily reported that they owned land in the Gwangmyeong and Siheung districts, which are planned for the third new city. Earlier, on the 3rd, Siheung City announced on the 3rd that “public officials who own the land should voluntarily report by the 8th.”

An official from Siheung City said, “Most of the public officials who voluntarily reported owned the land in the name of their families,” and said, “All seem to have nothing to do with speculation.” He explained, “Most of the land they own was inherited by ancestors, or it was investigated as a field that was bought before 2000. We believe that it is not speculation aimed at developing a new city.”

Siheung City is also working to check the list of land owners and employees in the Gwangmyeong and Siheung districts. According to the results of the investigation until this day, no officials with the same name as the owner of the land were found. Siheung City is also investigating the possibility of owning the land in the name of a spouse or child. Public officials were asked to submit consent to the use of personal information.

In Gwangmyeong City, there are additional public officials who have land in Gwangmyeong and Siheung districts. Earlier, it was revealed that one of the sixth-level officials lived in the forest in Gahak-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, seven months before the Gwangmyeong-Siheung districts were announced as planned new towns. The official, however, is said to claim that “I bought the land without knowing the development information.” An official from Gwangmyeong City said, “We are investigating whether or not about 1,300 city officials have land in the planned new city. As a result of the provisional survey, it was found that 5-6 people owned the land in Gwangmyeong and Siheung districts from 2015 to last year.” Gwangmyeong City is investigating the process of purchasing land with them.

Gwangmyeong City is a public official who made a sale with suspected speculation in places where development is confirmed, such as the Gwangmyeong/Siheung Techno Valley Development Project District, the Cloud Mountain Urban Development Project District, the Gwangmyeong River 2 Public Housing District, and the Gwangmyeong Cultural Complex in front of the Gwangmyeong Cave. We are also investigating if there is any. In order to secure the expertise and objectivity of the investigation, a special investigation group including external experts such as attorneys, lawyers, tax accountants, and certified brokers is operated. On the morning of the 10th, Gwangmyeong City announces the results of an interim investigation into allegations of speculation.
