Two medical staff at the Seoul National Medical Center who received the Pfizer vaccine were diagnosed with a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) on the 6th, and authorities began to analyze the cause.

According to the National Medical Center on the 7th, it was confirmed on the 6th that two nurses working in the new 7 ward, the Corona 19 ward at the National Medical Center, located in Euljiro, Jung-gu, Seoul, were tested positive for Corona 19. One nurse, who was first confirmed, had a fever from the previous day (5th) and was tested and confirmed positive on the 6th. One other nurse was identified during a full ward examination.

According to the results of the epidemiological investigation of the first confirmed cases, 6 employees working at the same time were classified as close contacts according to the results of the epidemiological investigation of the public health center, and additional epidemiological investigations are being conducted.

The new 7 ward, which has been treating patients infected with Corona 19 in the National Medical Center, is now closed.

Two nurses who were confirmed to be corona 19 were known to have received the Pfizer vaccine on February 28. Pfizer’s vaccine is administered in a total of five locations, including three regional vaccination centers, including the Seoul National Medical Center, which is a central vaccination center, and Cheonan Hospital of Suncheon Port University, and the Daegu Vaccination Center, a regional vaccination center. The first candidate for vaccination is 54,910 medical staff who treat patients with Corona 19.

Even though they received the Pfizer vaccine, they were tested positive for Corona 19 because antibodies are not produced immediately after vaccination. In the case of the Pfizer vaccine, a total of two doses are required to form a corona-preventing antibody. Three to four weeks after one inoculation, two doses should be administered to enhance immunity. In the case of the primary vaccination, it is known that it usually takes about 4 weeks for the antibody to form after the Pfizer vaccination, and 5 weeks for the AstraZeneca vaccine.
