As a result of a rapid diagnosis test for a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) at Suncheon Prison, Jeonnam, it was confirmed that three people tested positive. In Suncheon Prison, one employee of the Civil Affairs Office was confirmed last month, but this is the first time among prisoners that a confirmed person has been confirmed.

According to law enforcement officials on the 7th, three people tested positive for the Corona19 rapid diagnosis test conducted by Suncheon Prison on the previous day. Suncheon Prison is a place where none of the prisoners have been confirmed with Corona 19.

On December 12 of last year, one employee who was working in the civil petition room was confirmed, but due to the nature of the work, there was no contact with the prisoner. The city of Suncheon has since conducted a corona diagnostic test on employees of Suncheon Prison, and all of them were negative. Since then, Suncheon Prison seemed to have no problem with the COVID-19 outbreak, but three prisoners tested positive in this rapid diagnosis test.

The correctional authorities are reported to have performed gene amplification (PCR) tests and quarantine measures on prisoners who tested positive. Unlike the rapid diagnostic test that results in 20 to 30 minutes, the PCR test result takes about a day. Although a positive response was shown in the rapid diagnostic test, it may be negative in the PCR test.

The case of COVID-19 outbreak in correctional facilities that started in the eastern detention center in Seoul is spreading nationwide. In the Seoul East Detention Center, the rapid increase in the number of confirmed cases has slowed due to measures of the Ministry of Justice and correctional authorities, but instead, cases of confirmed cases are occurring sporadically in other correctional facilities.
