According to the Seoul Election Commission, on the afternoon of the 4th, the Women’s Commission sent an administrative disposition letter urging Congressman Yun to comply with the Public Official Election Act. Rep. Yoon said in an interview with YTN radio on the 29th of last month that “the party and camps conduct public opinion polls several times in relation to the by-election of the Mayor of Seoul on April 7th.” “The gap in approval ratings between Candidate Se-hoon Oh and Candidate Park is two places. I think it came within one digit of the number. “I think the controversy about Candidate Oh’s lies was an opportunity to change the situation.” Rep. Yoon is the vice chairman of the Camp Executive Committee for Candidate Park.

An official of the NEC said, “We admit that the remarks violated the Public Officials Election Act.” According to Article 108, Paragraph 12 of the Public Official Election Act, no one can publish or report the results of public opinion polls conducted by political parties or candidates until the deadline on the election day. Rep. Yoon’s remarks were criticized by opposition parties saying, “It misleads public opinion even while violating the election law by publicizing the results of an unregistered public opinion poll.”

However, the Seoul Election Commission said, “It is difficult to judge that it is intentional, such as making a one-time statement without a specific number, and revising the report of the statement.” Last year, Hong Joon-pyo, a former representative of the Free Korea Party, met with reporters ahead of the 2018 local election, saying that the parent mayoral candidate of the Korean Party had a higher approval rating of 10 percentage points or more than the rival candidates, and was fined 20 million won by the Central Election Polls Deliberation Committee.

Meanwhile, Lee Hae-chan, a former Democratic Party leader on the 1st, was also in controversy by referring to his own opinion poll in an interview with TBS. At the time, former CEO Lee said, “In the party’s internal investigation, the gap in approval ratings between candidates tends to fall within one digit.” The NEC official said, “The matters related to the remarks of the former representative are still being reviewed by the competent department for violations of the law.”
