CEO Han Jong-hee, who is in charge of Samsung TV, made it clear that there is no plan to release QD Display TV in the short term. It draws a line about the release theory next year, which has been raised by some, and it is noteworthy how it will affect Samsung Display’s strategic business.

On the 3rd, Han Jong-hee, head of Samsung Electronics’ video display business division (president), in an exclusive interview with IT Chosun, nailed some analysis that Samsung Display’s QD display panel would be adopted for its own TV, saying “it is not true.”

Until now, the adoption of Samsung Display’s QD display by Samsung Electronics in the domestic and overseas TV industry has been a very hot topic. Samsung Display declared an investment of 1.3 trillion won in QD display in 2019 and has accelerated its commercialization. It was predicted that both sides of Samsung group companies would join hands in commercializing QD displays, but this time, President Jong-hee Han made a clear position.

President Han took a step back, saying that it was’premature’ to make a decision with a very cautious position on the introduction of QD display.

President Han said, “QD display only comes out and the release is still far away. Now, QD display equipment has only arrived.” Denied.

The dialogue between Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display on LCD production continues. If Samsung Display develops a high-quality QD display panel, it plans to review TV application, but it is not in that stage yet.

QD Display is a strategic product developed by Samsung Display as the next-generation food. Following the start of trial production in 2020, it plans to mass-produce in the second half of this year. For the successful settlement of this product, it is desperate to join Samsung Electronics, the’world’s No. 1 TV’ as a customer.

However, as a president directly denied the related content, the possibility of adopting QD display by Samsung Electronics in the future became uncertain.

In August 2020, Samsung Display provided prototypes of QD display TVs to Samsung Electronics’ video display division, Sony, Xiaomi, and Panasonic. At the time, it is known that Samsung Electronics showed a lukewarm reaction.

At the micro LED TV launch event on December 10, 2020, Samsung Electronics suggested the possibility of introducing a QD display at a fundamental level.

At the time, “QD display has a variety of possibilities, and we are constantly reviewing and seeing the possibility,” said Chu Jong-seok, head of the image strategy marketing team at Samsung Electronics’ video display division.
