A police officer who was dispatched after being reported that gambling was going on inside a building cracked down on 9 men at the crackdown site for violating the Infectious Disease Prevention Act (private gatherings for more than 5 people were prohibited). The police inevitably applied the charges by removing evidence of gambling. This is the first case in which a suspicion of violating the infectious disease prevention method was applied in a gambling board.
At 4:30 pm on the 16th, police reported that several people were gambling on the second floor of a building in the West. Police raiding the scene knocked on the office door, but did not open the door immediately. After about 5 minutes, the police opened the door they opened and found that there were only 9 men in the office, including A (50s) sitting at a round table. Rather, they asked,’Why?’ While the police knocked on the door, all evidence of gambling, such as cards and cash, was removed. The police did not have a warrant and could not search their bodies, but they cracked down on the charges of violating the Infectious Disease Prevention Act (private gatherings for more than 5 people are prohibited) and handed them over to the Western-gu office.
The ward office may impose a penalty of 100,000 won per person for violating Article 49, Paragraph 1 of the Infectious Disease Prevention Act.
An official from Chungmu District University of the Busan Western Police Department said, “There are many cases where sailors gather before departure because there is a nearby Busan joint fish market in Seo-gu.”
