Suspicion of tax evasion… Court “high possibility of blame”

[더팩트ㅣ송주원 기자] TriJ Company (currently Bombom) CEO Jeon Mo, who was convicted of offshore tax evasion while running an entertainment agency, withdrew the appeal and sentenced to two years and six months in prison and four years probation for the first trial. Jeon is the mother of actor Jang Geun-suk, and TreeJ Company is known as a one-man agency whose only celebrity belongs to Jang.

According to law enforcement officials on the 5th, Mr. Jeon filed an appeal against the judgment on the 19th of last month, the day of the sentence of the first trial, but a week later, on the 26th of last month, withdrew the appeal. The prosecution also did not appeal for more than 7 days of filing an appeal as stipulated in the Criminal Procedure Act, and the first trial ruling against Mr. Jeon was confirmed on the 27th of last month.

Jeon was charged with tax evasion of 1.8 billion won in total by omitting income reports of billions of won by finding or using the income earned from overseas activities in Hong Kong, etc. by his son and an entertainer of TreeJ Company. Etc.), was handed over to trial in March last year.

Jeon claimed innocence, saying that he was not willing to evade taxes during the trial, but the court found some of the charges against him as guilty. On the 19th of last month, Section 25-3 of the Criminal Agreement of the Seoul Central District Court (Deputy Judge Kwon Seong-soo, Kim Sun-hee and Lim Jeong-yeop) sentenced Jeon to two years and six months in prison, four years probation, and a fine of 3 billion won.

TriJ Company, an entertainment agency run by Mr. Jeon, was also prosecuted for violating the Tax Offender Penalty Act, and was sentenced to a fine of 1.5 billion won.

The judge pointed out that “the accused is highly likely to blame the crime method or result in which the defendant did not report any measures after a tax audit and all captured over 1.8 billion won of tax.”

Jang said in an official statement when his mother, Jeon was prosecuted in March of last year, “The mother of TreeJ Company as the company’s representative is wholly responsible for the management’s real power and fund management. We do not share any fund management from our mother. “I did not know the related facts at all because I was unable to do so,” he said. “Because of the tax investigation by TreeJ Company, we recognized a serious problem with family management and decided to become independent at the same time as the military enlistment.”

Jang canceled the convocation in May of last year after performing alternative service as a social service worker in July 2018.
