[단독] He said it had nothing to do with the Myanmar military… Buying agency for warships

◀ Anchor ▶

Yesterday I delivered a report that POSCO’s gas field business is suspected to be the moneyline of the Myanmar military.

POSCO explained that it had nothing to do with the military, but it wasn’t true when we interviewed.

It was revealed that South Korea sold a warship to the Myanmar military two years ago, and POSCO released a bridge in the middle and even invited the head of the Myanmar military to Korea.

Reporter Lee Yoo-kyung covered it alone.

It is an event to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the establishment of the Myanmar Navy

General Min Aung Hlaing, who led the military coup, and a large number of military leaders attended.

A newly purchased warship by the Myanmar military was commissioned at this event.

Moa Tama Ham.

With a length of 122 m and a weight of 12,000 tons, it is the largest of the Myanmar Navy’s ships.

It is an amphibious transport that can carry 2 helicopters, 15 armored vehicles, and 250 armed troops.

This warship was made and exported by South Korea.

This is Daeseon Chosun, a Korean company located in Busan.

By the time the warships were exported, the Myanmar military had already been criticized by the international community.

This is due to the massacre of the Rohingya minority ethnic group.

The largest shareholder of Daeseon Shipbuilding is the Export-Import Bank, or the Korean government.

Daesun Shipbuilding said, “They only received orders from domestic companies, and they did not do business with the Myanmar military.”

Who is the Korean company that Daeseon Chosun said?

As a result of the interview, it was POSCO International.

POSCO International placed the order at the request of the Myanmar military, and it was POSCO International that received the ship and handed it over to the Myanmar military.

He bought the weapon as an agent.

The launch ceremony of the amphibious transport ship held in Busan in June 2019.

The heads of the military, including the second member of the Myanmar Navy, visited Korea in person.

At that time, the company that invited the military leadership was also POSCO International.

POSCO denied its relationship with the military, saying, “It has no relationship with the military ministry of Myanmar. It was only a joint venture with a state-owned oil company.”

In reality, however, it seems that it was close enough to the Myanmar military to buy a warship.
