According to industry sources on the 20th, Chairman Chung and Chairman Choi are expected to visit the’Mobility Lifestyle Charging Station’, an ultra-fast charging station exclusively for electric vehicles, which will open on the 21st in Gil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. It has not been confirmed whether the two presidents will visit separately or at the same time to meet. The charging station is the first fast charging station for electric vehicles in Korea to be built by Hyundai Motor Company and SK Networks. The largest shareholder of SK Networks is SK with a 39.14% stake, and Chairman Tae-won Choi is the largest shareholder with an 18.44% stake in SK.

The mobility lifestyle charging station is the first case in Korea to completely remove all gas facilities of SK gas stations and replace them with a charging station exclusively for electric vehicles. This charging station will be built on the site of a large gas station with a gross floor area of 3300m2 as a complex cultural space that can be used by electric vehicle drivers such as electric vehicle chargers, vehicle diagnosis facilities, cafes, and experience zones.

Here, 8 units of Hyundai’s ultra-fast charger’High Charger’, which is the world’s largest 350kW in terms of output, will be installed. According to Hyundai Motor Company, if you charge an electric vehicle equipped with a 70kW or higher-capacity battery through a high charger, it can charge up to 80% in 18 minutes. Models equipped with’E-GMP’, an electric vehicle platform exclusively for Hyundai Motors, including the Ioniq 5, which will be released in March, will be fully charged in 30 minutes through a high charger. This is rated one number higher than Tesla’s V3 supercharger, which is 250kW in terms of output.

The two chairman’s visit to the charging station is in line with the two companies’ mobility innovation strategies. This electric vehicle charging station is a space that has transformed a gas station, a representative symbol of an internal combustion engine vehicle, into a charging space dedicated to electric vehicles. It is not a charging space additionally installed in apartments, large marts, and government parking lots, but a’complete electric vehicle space’ that has replaced the existing gas station. The symbol is great for the two companies preparing for future mobility, starting with electric vehicles.

Hyundai Motor Company and SK Networks signed the first MOU in September 2017 and have been preparing for several years. There were also observations that the charging station was opened in the first half of last year, but building a space that had never been before brought fruition in four years. The industry predicted that it will be an opportunity to change the perception that electric vehicles, which were recognized as being able to charge only while parking due to the long charging time, can be charged even while stationary.

SK Group and Hyundai Motor Group have continued to cooperate with a focus on future mobility. SK Group SK Telecom (017670)It has a business structure that will create synergy with Hyundai Motor’s future mobility in the autonomous vehicle and connected car business based on the company’s 5G network and technology. In addition SK innovation (096770)Is supplying batteries to Kia’s Niro and Soul electric vehicles, and is also the primary battery supplier of E-GMP, an electric vehicle platform that will be mass-produced this year.

At the battery meeting in July last year, Chairman Chung and Chairman Choi shared the next-generation battery technology being developed by SK Innovation and Hyundai Motor’s future new technology development direction, and discussed ways to expand the charging infrastructure for electric and hydrogen vehicles using existing gas stations. . At the time of the business agreement in 2017, Hyundai Motor Company and SK Networks planned to expand the supply of electric vehicle charging stations starting from the mobility lifestyle charging stations, but it is known that SK Networks was in the midst of selling the gas station division to Hyundai Oilbank last year.

In addition to the electric vehicle charging station in Gil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Hyundai Motor Company announced that it plans to build 120 high-chargers nationwide this year. Installation of super-fast chargers is in progress overseas as well. Ionity, which has acquired a 20% stake by Hyundai Motor Group, plans to install a total of 400 high-speed charging stations on major European highways by 2022.
