While there were suspicions that the candidate Park Bum-gye handed over the real estate to his family at a price lower than the market price in the process of disposing of multiple houses last year, the grandfather who received the real estate was identified as the representative of Oedo Botania, a famous tourist destination in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do. The opposition party plans to focus on investigating whether there was any inappropriateness in the transaction between the family during the personnel hearing process.

According to Congressman Soo-jin Cho and the Electronic Disclosure System on the 5th, Mr. Joo was the third son-in-law of Chairman Hosuk Choi, the owner of Oedo Botania, and took office as CEO in October last year. Chairman Choi and his wife bought an abandoned island in 1969 and converted it to a tourist destination. Currently, it is operated as a small and medium-sized company with annual sales of 10 billion won and net profit of 2.5 billion won by inheriting children.

Regarding this, Rep. Jo said, “Joo also seems to be a considerable asset price, such as owning an expensive apartment in Seoul,” and said, “Candidate Park donated real estate to his brother-in-law, Joo and his young wife, who have billions of assets. It must be clarified.” On that day, Ho-Young Joo, the National Powers’ Representative, insisted at a meeting with the members of the Judiciary Committee, saying, “Isn’t there a gift and a false deal between families to avoid controversy over multiple houses?”

Previously, candidate Park’s side was controversial that he owns three houses, contrary to the government and ruling party’s policy of’one household, one house’. In August of last year, his wife’s Daegu house and shopping center and land and buildings in Miryang, Gyeongnam were given to Joo and his children. It appears to have been sold or donated.

It was pointed out as a problem that the price of the sale of Daegu real estate to Mr. Joo by his wife Park during the disposal process was only 700 million won, which is significantly lower than the 1.4 billion won level. If the tax authority transfers assets higher or lower than the market price from a related person, such as a relative, if the difference between the market price and the transaction price is more than 300 million won or more than 5% of the market price, it may be regarded as an’unfair transaction’ and may impose taxes again.

In addition, suspicion of omission of property report of candidate Park has been raised regarding the real estate in Gagok-dong, Miryang-si, Gyeongnam. This asset was donated by half of Candidate Park’s wife and Mr. Joo in November 2018, but was not included in the property report of candidate Park in 2019. Afterwards, candidate Park’s wife disposes of multiple houses, and in August of last year, they donated land and buildings to two people who appear to be the children of Mr. It is estimated that the publicly announced land price exceeded 700,000 won per square meter, and the price of the land owned by the wife alone reached 400 million won.

An official from the Preparatory Group for Candidate Park’s hearing said, “I know there is no problem with the transaction.” Earlier, regarding the omission of property report, he explained that “the spouse received the gift was between the mother-in-law and the spouse, and I later knew and corrected the property report.”
