[기상센터][날씨] Preliminary measures to reduce fine dust in the metropolitan area… worse tomorrow

[앵커]

Air quality is deteriorating again as smog from China is added to the air stagnation.

The concentration of ultrafine dust is expected to soar nationwide until tomorrow, and preliminary measures to reduce fine dust have been issued in the metropolitan area.

We will connect with reporters to learn more about the situation and prospects of fine dust. Reporter Jeong Hye-yoon!

I am worried because the air quality is deteriorating again.

Are there even preliminary measures to reduce fine dust in the metropolitan area?

[기자]

Yes, it is.

Preliminary measures to reduce fine dust have been put in place in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon.

Preliminary reduction measures refer to preemptive measures to reduce fine dust targeting the public sector one day in advance as high concentrations of fine dust are expected.

It’s from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.

When preliminary reduction measures are issued, measures such as reduction of operating hours at public worksites, suppression of dust scattering at construction sites, and expansion of the operation of road sweepers are implemented.

In addition, it is recommended that the elderly and children, as well as the general public, refrain from going out and wear a KF80 or higher health mask, not a salivation mask, when outdoors.

[앵커]

So what is the current concentration of ultrafine dust?

[기자]

Yes. Air quality is deteriorating nationwide as smog from China is introduced overnight into domestic pollutants accumulated due to atmospheric congestion.

Currently, the concentration of ultrafine dust nationwide is between 50 and 70 μg, which is’bad’ level, and is usually 2 to 3 times higher.

In particular, in some areas of the metropolitan area where preliminary reduction measures were taken, the concentration of ultrafine dust soared to around 80µg, showing a’very bad’ level.

Here, morning fog and fine dust are entangled, and the visibility is very short to one-fifth.

Traffic safety needs to be taken care of on highways and roads around rivers and coastal areas.

This fine dust is expected to remain at a high concentration until the day of tomorrow, and then it will slow down for a while as it rains across the country from night to the morning of the day after tomorrow.
