Today, the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the first emergency measures to reduce high-density fine dust are being issued this year in the metropolitan area and Chungcheong Province.
In this area, the concentration of ultrafine dust, which is bad for the respiratory system, is usually 2 to 5 times higher and requires special attention.
We will connect reporters to find out more details. Reporter Jeong Hye-yoon!
It was warm throughout the holiday season, and the fine dust got worse. Can you tell us about the area where emergency reduction measures were taken and the current situation?
[기자]
Yes, the areas where emergency measures to reduce high concentrations of fine dust are being issued are Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon and other metropolitan areas, Sejong, and Chungbuk and Chungnam.
As the atmosphere congested in the warm weather and smog from China overlapped, emergency reduction measures were issued for the first time in this year.
The operating hours of businesses and construction sites with a lot of fine dust emissions are shortened until 9 pm, and outdoor events organized by cities and autonomous regions are also prohibited.
However, due to the Lunar New Year holidays and holidays, the administrative agency does not enforce the vehicle 2 subsidy and the emission level 5 vehicle operation restrictions.
Currently, in the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungcheong provinces, the concentration of ultrafine dust, which is bad for the respiratory system, is 50 to 90 ㎍ per cubic meter, which is 2 to 5 times higher than usual.
In particular, the area of Yeongheung, Ongjin-gun, Incheon, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, and Naepo, Hongseong, Chungcheongnam-do, show a level of’very bad’, with the highest concentration of ultrafine dust reaching 150㎍ per cubic meter.
The National Institute of Environmental Sciences predicted that high concentrations of fine dust will continue until tomorrow morning as atmospheric congestion continues.
It is expected that it will become colder tomorrow afternoon with a cold wind blowing, so the high concentration of fine dust is also expected to be gradually resolved.
