[기상센터][날씨] Experienced -20℃ General Dong-gun… to heavy snow and strong winds

With a strong subterranean cold wave coming, the temperature experienced in Seoul dropped to 20 degrees below zero.

The west coast and Jeju Island turned into a snowy world with strong winds and heavy snow of over 20cm.

In the subzero cold, snow quickly accumulates on the floor.

Cars move carefully on slippery roads with their headlights on.

In Gwangju, where the first heavy snow warning was issued this winter, heavy snow of over 15cm fell.

Heavy snow accompanied by strong winds poured over Jeju Island.

A high wave of up to 5m occurred on the sea, and heavy snow fell constantly in the inland.

As the snow fell on the road, even the midsize bus slipped on the inclined road.

The snow was concentrated on the west coast and island areas.

This is because the Arctic cold, with an air temperature of -30 degrees Celsius, passed above the relatively warm sea, and snow clouds formed and affected it.

The inland, which was not affected by snow clouds, suffered the strongest cold wave this winter.

The temperature in the mountains of Gangwon fell below -20 degrees Celsius, below -13.9 degrees Celsius in Paju and Cheorwon, and 12.4 degrees below -zero in Seoul.

In particular, with the cold wind blowing, the perceived temperature stayed around -20 degrees Celsius in the downtown area.

Cold waves, strong winds and heavy snow are expected to continue until the last day of 2020 and the first day of the New Year.

After that, the temperature will rise for a while, but the Arctic cold will come again, and General Dong is expected to raging until early January.
