[글로벌리포트]Koreans take action against hate and discrimination in the U.S.

[앵커]

In addition to the tragic shootings of Atlanta, calls are spreading across the United States to end racial hate crimes.

However, hate crimes large and small against Asians still continue.

Koreans in Los Angeles came to the streets and raised their voices to stop discrimination and hatred against Asians.

Reporter Eunkyung Kim delivers.

At 5 a.m. when everyone is asleep, a man wearing a white hood looks around.

He picks up something from the floor and starts throwing it at the window of the Korean Association building.

The United States, where hate and hate crimes against Asians became more severe after the coronavirus outbreak.

The Atlanta shootings were an opportunity to reveal the seriousness of these occasional crimes and the consequences of being neglected.

Over the past year, 42% of the victims of hate crimes against Asians were Chinese, followed by 15% of Koreans.

Even when not reported, more crimes are targeting Asians.

Korean Americans have stepped up to oppose the Asian hate sentiment and crime prevalent in American society.

Protesters mobilizing North and Guangwari filled the eight-lane road in the center of Korean Town in Los Angeles.

Not only locals but also mainstream people contributed to the cry of Koreans to come up with a self-help plan together and to make their own voices for Asians as well.

Starting with the Korean American community, voices of not being silent about hate crimes of Asian origin are growing, and calls for racism and eradication of crimes across the United States will continue in the future.
