[국제]US capital Washington blockade…only small protests on holidays

[앵커]

Washington DC, where the inauguration ceremony was held three days before the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden, was completely blocked off, and the martial law was on the alert.

With emergencies in all 50 states, protests that were announced on holidays were mostly canceled or held on a small scale, leaving no major clashes.

This is a report from Washington correspondent Taewook Kang.

It is the street in front of the Capitol where the inauguration ceremony is scheduled to be held.

Vehicle movement is hard to find and only stars and stripes are fluttering along the road.

Iron fences are strung around the Capitol, and the National Guard is armed and on the lookout.

With control over downtown Washington, DC, police and state defense forces are reinforcing checkpoints.

The same is true of states that have been warned of possible armed protests.

The tensions are especially greater in the contending states, where Trump is claiming to be a fraudulent election.

On holidays in Michigan, some protesters armed themselves to protest in front of the Capitol.

However, it turned out that the number of people was small, and it was not intended to be a radical demonstration.

Small Trump supporters have also appeared in Austin, Texas, and more than 50 protesters in front of the Minnesota-state St. Paul’s Legislature insisting on fraudulent elections.

Although small protests have been held in these states, most of the large gatherings and protests are said to have been cancelled.
