[국제]”The Biden government attempts to contact North Korea since mid-February…I haven’t gotten an answer yet”

Foreign media reports that Joe Biden’s US administration has tried behind-the-scenes contact with North Korea through several channels since mid-last month, but has not yet received a response from North Korea.

It appears to be an attempt to block the possibility of heightened tension caused by North Korea’s provocation and lead to a dialogue table.

Biden’s administration attempted to contact North Korea, Reuters reported, citing high-ranking US officials.

The official said the attempt was made through a number of channels, including the North Korean delegation to the United Nations in New York, from mid-last month.

It is believed that there have also been attempts to contact intelligence agencies.

However, he said he had not yet received an answer from Pyongyang.

The North Korean delegation to the United Nations has not made any comments.

The official declined to comment on how North Korea’s silence would affect the Biden administration’s review of its policy toward North Korea.

Since taking office in January, the Biden administration’s position is to look at North Korea policy again.

This is because former President Trump was unable to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons even though he had talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

In this regard, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Seong Kim said at a press briefing on the 12th that he expects the Biden administration’s review of North Korea policy to be completed within a few weeks.

Therefore, this attempt by the US government to make contact with North Korea under water is interpreted as an attempt to block the possibility of heightened tensions caused by North Korea’s provocations at the time of policy review and lead to a dialogue table.

For the Korean government, which has emphasized dialogue, it is expected that this week when US Secretary of State Blincoln and Secretary of Defense Austin visit Korea, it will be an opportunity to exchange information on North Korea and deliver our position sufficiently.
