[국제]Prime Minister’s father applied for French citizenship

The transition period set by both sides regarding Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union and Brexit ends at 8 AM our time.

From this point on, the UK is going to have a real Brexit that is virtually completely out of the EU.

The day when the British, European Union and EU’s 47 years of companionship ends.

Passengers are getting off the Eurostar train from London when it arrives at Paris North Station, France.

The British have enjoyed the freedom of movement and residence within EU member states.

However, these benefits also disappeared as the Brexit transition period set by both sides ended at 11pm on the 31st of London.

In this regard, the UK government has stated that from the new year, travelers visiting the EU should ensure that their passports are valid for sufficient periods.

Likewise, citizens of EU member states must carry their passports with them starting in October when visiting the UK.

However, free movement between Gibraltar and Spain is guaranteed for the time being.

The governments of Britain and Spain reached this interim agreement a few hours before the end of the Brexit transition period.

Meanwhile, the father of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who led Brexit, applied for French citizenship, saying that he would remain European.

Prime Minister Johnson’s father, 80-year-old Stanley Johnson, told a French radio station that the process for obtaining French citizenship is underway.

Stanley Johnson, a former member of the European Parliament, voted to remain in the EU unlike his son at the 2016 Brexit referendum.
